The Requirements
There are over 10 million vehicle movements in the UK each year (these include vehicles being driven, transported or recovered) that are largely organised by companies employing internal drivers, or expensive contracts with single or multiple providers.
Start-up company, Engineius, recognised that these vehicle movements amounted to a lot of
fragmentation, inefficiency and high running costs. The company’s aim became to move the vehicle movement ecosystem to a single open marketplace, where vehicle suppliers would be available to customers who need vehicles moved.
To accomplish this, Engineius required a desktop and mobile software application, offering customers an end-to-end solution to either manage their existing movement supply base, or submit all their vehicle movement needs to Engineius for fulfilment. The software would allow clients to enter, track and manage all their vehicle movement needs.
When Engineius approached Blueberry, the principle of the web portal was simple: clients tell Engineius what movements they need, and Engineius identify the suppliers who can fulfil their needs most efficiently and cheaply.
By pooling details of when vehicles are being moved around the country and automatically matching jobs to outward and return journeys, Engineius would be able to provide clients with efficiency gains and reduce the cost of vehicle movements.
Our Solution
Using our own BBWT web development platform to accelerate development and keeps costs down, Blueberry built a web and mobile application that fully met the brief in a time-frame of 18 months, using Angular 4, .net core 2.1 on Linux, NativeScript and MySQL database technologies.
For customers, the website portal enables customers to:
- Log vehicle movements.
- See and agree to a price.
- Save the vehicle movement.
- Allow customers to log into the portal and to see the status of vehicle movement, including real-time tracking.
For Suppliers:
- The web portal enables suppliers to view and search vehicle movements, to purchase or bid for jobs, to allocate drivers and trucks to the movement, and to track the status of the job.
For Engineius:
- The web portal enables Engineius to administer accounts, administer jobs (allocate a job to a supplier, merge jobs together, split jobs).
For Drivers:
- The mobile app allows drivers to view, search, or bid for jobs and guide them through the process of undertaking a vehicle movement, including:
- taking photographs of the vehicle before and after the movement
- capturing signatures from the customers (both at pick-up and drop-off)
- capturing different ratings of how well the process has gone
- The mobile app uses GPS tracking to show current location of the driver on the website.
The system is designed to take a vehicle movement and compare it against other similar jobs logged on the system, and where appropriate combine movements together. It also supports an on-line auction where suppliers can bid for jobs.
The Results
By pooling details of when vehicles are being moved around the country and automatically matching jobs where outward and return journeys match, Engineius has been able to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of vehicle movements.
As a result, Engineius now move cars and vans for the largest companies in the UK – including the UK’s Royal Mail - and have an efficient, sophisticated online portal.
The portal allows customers to either manage their existing movement supply base or submit all their vehicle movement needs to Engineius in a way that guarantees fulfilment and provides upfront transparent pricing.
