The Requirements

Assetlink is a specialist provider of marketing software solutions for Global 2000 companies. When support for macros was removed from the Mac version of Office 2007 by Microsoft, Assetlink approached Blueberry Consultants to solve the problem of using Excel spreadsheets in a multi-platform office environment.

In one of Assetlink’s systems, customers use Microsoft Excel to record information for later entry into a database. An embedded macro within Excel normally converts the input data to an XML file, which is then accepted by the cataloguing engine.

When support for macros was removed from the Mac version of Office 2007, an alternative method of generating the XML files was required, which would retain the familiar spreadsheet user interface.

Our Solution

Blueberry analysed the existing Excel macros and developed the AppleScript for OSX 10.4 (Tiger) and OSX 10.5 (Leopard), as well as for PPC and Intel based machines – so continuing support for Mac Office 2007 users.

In 2011, Assetlink was acquired by SAS, a provider of business analytics software and services.
