Feb 2007: Military Computer-Based Simulation Software Makes Use Of BB FlashBack

Ternion Corporation, located in Huntsville, Alabama, is Blueberry’s latest high profile convert to BB FlashBack Screen Recorder.

Ternion makes state-of-the-art computer-based simulation software used mainly in military applications.

Formed in 1989 by current President, Brad Spearing and two other partners, the idea for the company was a simple one:

"Most government computer simulation is developed from scratch under contract", Brad said. "We felt the simulation market needed to rely more heavily on commercial products from companies who specialize in that instead of building them from scratch."

The company’s first product was called FLAMES (FLexible Analysis and Mission Effectiveness System), and was actually a family of individual simulation products.

Since its formation, the company first differentiated into two distinct divisions - a software products division and an engineering services division - and now focuses on its own software products.

BB FlashBack Screen Recorder came to Brad’s attention whilst he was working on a project that required a simulation (an airplane getting shot down by a missile) to be fully visualised. Brad had been evaluating a range of commercial screen recorder programs to see which would be most appropriate for creating a demo of their software.

"I needed a program that could play the simulation like a movie," Brad explained. "It's key for us to be able to do this, but one leading program we looked only captured still shots, so we were losing a lot of the action going on, such as mouse movement, opening new windows, and animation in PowerPoint slides - making it useless for our purposes."

And then he tried BB FlashBack Screen Recorder, which recorded everything he did and played continuously like a movie, with full audio and video synchronization. "Unlike the other programs we'd evaluated, BB FlashBack has a great online help section that clearly addressed the technical issues we’d encountered with competing software, and gave directions on how to make BB FlashBack specific to our requirement. It was all so simple and direct. It’s a tremendous product."

BB FlashBack is one of a new generation of screen recorders, which produces exceptionally compact files, down to 100KB per minute recorded. The software features extensive editing functions which allow the user to add text effects, edit and hide mouse movements, display their own images in the movie, cut and paste footage, change the movie speed and alter the viewable area. The movies can then be exported to Flash, AVI, WMV, PPT or EXE for use on a CD-ROM, or streamed from a website, complete with sound and embedded playback controls. The product can also create completely standalone self-playing movie files for distribution via CD or e-mail.

Brad Spearing, who is a tough critic when it comes to evaluating software, has been extremely impressed with his trial of BB FlashBack. "If the competing software is a 5," he said, "then BB FlashBack is a 20. The trial has made me confident in recommending it for use in our application."

Martin Green, Managing Director of Blueberry Software and creator of the award-winning BB FlashBack Screen Recording software, said: "The versatility of BB FlashBack across a range of industries makes it an ideal demonstration tool in any application where users want to record and share on-screen events and procedures."
